sandpipersNevada state championship title holder Sandpipers of Nevada, recognized among the few USA Swimming Silver Medal Swim Clubs in the nation, announced today three athletes who furthered their swimming careers after signing NCAA Division 1 Letters of Intent.

Olivia Barker and Adam Henley will be heading to the Big Ten Conference in the fall of 2013 and Lindsey Englestead will be going to the Mountain West Conference. Barker will attend Indiana University. Henley, to Michigan State University, and Englestead, to the University of New Mexico.

“It says a lot about the drive and motivation of our swimmers,” says Ron Aitken, head coach of Sandpipers of Nevada.  “We would like to think that the support of our club had something to do with their success, but we also recognize that all three are tenacious in their goals.  They are going to continue to do very well and we, as a team, could not be more proud.”

Barker, Henley and Englestead each signed with their respective universities on the first day athletes can sign during the early national letter of intent signing period in sports such as volleyball, water polo, tennis, swimming, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, softball and wrestling. The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a document used to indicate a student athlete’s commitment to participating National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) colleges and universities in the United States. "These scholarships the kids will be receiving are the most valuable thing our club has been able to achieve through the dedication of the club, coaches, parents, and athletes," says Aitken.   "Without all four of them, we wouldn't be able to be as successful as we are today. This year’s seniors could total close to $1 million in scholarship value amongst all of them."
