ssi-spring-2012LVSportz is proud to announce a new program to educate our community on youth sports safety, injury awareness and prevention. This will include free clinics/seminars that are open to parents, athletes and coaches. Anyone who is involved with youth sports is encouraged to attend. Clinics/Seminars are be based off the ASSOM’s Stop Sports Injuries Campaign, The CDC’s Heads Up: Concussions in Youth Sports Campaign and the National Center for Sports Safety.

According to Safe Kids USA, over 30 million children and adolescents participate in youth athletics. More than 4 million of these children will suffer an injury requiring medical attention each year. This is at a cost of billions of dollars to the US economy. Even more alarming is that 50% of these injuries are overuse injuries that are completely preventable. Additionally, many of the acute injuries, the quote-on-quote accidents, are also preventable with better equipment, training, and technique.

Our goal with this program is to give parents, athletes and coaches the tools necessary to recognize and prevent such injuries. To achieve our goal we will provide the public with free youth sports related clinics/seminars and information provided via our website where we will cover such topics as:

  • Types of youth sports injuries
  • Overuse Injuries
  • Prevention Techniques
  • Concussion Information & Management
  • Sports Nutrition
  • And much more

Clinics, Seminars & Articles will be hosted by members of the medical community such as Orthopedic Specialists, Neurology Specialists, Physical Therapists, Nutritionists and more… Additionally, some clinics and seminars will include parents and/or their children who have been affected by such injuries.

Sports Specific injury prevention tip sheets, information on Concussions and more will be handed out to everyone attending these events including little special thank you gifts. We will be kicking off this program during the Month of April which is Youth Sports Safety Month. We will hold one or two seminars during this month and will continue to host different ones year round.

The clinics/seminars will also be a required part of our upcoming Youth Coach Certification Program and attending any of these clinics/seminars will count towards this requirement.

Information for Medical, Health, Nutrition & Fitness Professionals

We are always looking for Medical, Health & Fitness Professionals to assist us in these clinics/seminars. In particular, we are looking for professionals that have a background working with children in youth sports. Specialists in the field(s) of Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Neurology, Nutrition and Fitness are especially needed and helpful. Topics that will be and should be covered are: youth sports related injuries; concussions; proper nutrition; proper warm-ups and cool downs; proper stretching; prevention techniques and tips; what to do when an injury does occur; etc…

Also helpful is if you know of anyone that has been greatly affected by a youth sports injury who would be willing to share their story. We are officially kicking off this program in April 2012 for Youth Sports Safety Month and will be holding overview, in-depth and specific clinics/seminars throughout the year.

Please feel free to contact us anytime if you can volunteer your expertise and time to any of these events. CONTACT US NOW!

We also encourage you to submit youth sports safety, health and fitness related articles to us to place on our website for the entire public to read. These articles would be placed in the Sports Safety Section of our Website and are included in our social feeds and our electronic newsletter.
